Man in serious condition after being shot by Chicago police officer on South Side: CPD
CHICAGO - A man is in serious condition after being shot by a Chicago police officer Thursday afternoon on the city’s South Side, authorities said.

What we know:
The incident happened at 3:49 p.m. in the 11000 block of S. Millard Avenue.
Officers responding to the scene found a man leaning out of a window at a residence. Police attempted to de-escalate the situation and instructed the man to keep his hands visible.
During the encounter, an officer fired at the man, who fell to the ground, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The man was treated at the scene before being transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The officer involved was also taken to a hospital for observation.

Authorities have not released further details about the incident.
The officer who fired their weapon has been placed on administrative duties for at least 30 days, in accordance with department protocol.
