Manhunt for suspect in south suburbs after series of weekend shootings

Police in south suburban Harvey are looking for a man that could possibly be linked to a series of shootings, one of which left one man dead.

Police launched a manhunt, at one point, said a Harvey Police spokesman.

The shootings are believed to be a result of altercations on social media, said Sean Howard, a police spokesman.

Two of the shootings occurred Saturday afternoon on 157th and Marshfield and Turlington, he said.

The fatal shooting happened in 15700 block of Marshfield shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim was identified as Antwon Clayton, Jr., 22.

Tips related to the shootings led police to a Shell gas station at 159th and Dixie Highway, where an armed man was arrested. Two men ran from a vehicle and into a wooded area south of the gas station, prompting the search.

One man was arrested in the wooded area. The other was able to get away, Howard said.

Howard said police discovered the car to be stolen, and recovered two AK-47 assault rifles and “at least” four semi-automatic weapons.

The third suspect is still being sought. There was no threat to the public, Howard said.
