A Chicago firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital after a massive blaze at a furniture store on the city's South Side.

What we know:

The fire broke out around 6:45 p.m. Thursday near 112th Street and Michigan Avenue, at Elegant Furniture & Linen, in the Roseland neighborhood.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Crews immediately entered the store to search for victims, and all made it out safely. However, one firefighter became trapped and activated his fast alarm.

"These guys were risking everything to get in there," one fire official said.

The firefighter was later located and transported to the hospital in good condition, according to CFD officials. His identity hasn't been released.

As of around 8:10 p.m., crews were still trying to get the flames under control.

Chicago firefighters battle massive blaze on South Side

Chicago firefighters were called to a massive blaze at a furniture store on the South Side.

Firefighters said the structure is an old building and all the contents inside – mattresses and furniture – are highly flammable.

"We're gonna be out here most of the night," fire officials said.

No other injuries were reported. The building was deemed a total loss, according to the fire department.

What we don't know:

It's unknown what caused the fire at this time.
