Chicago news employee missing since Friday; sister speaks out

Chicago police are asking for the public's help in locating a Chicago news employee who was reported missing Friday from the Lake View East neighborhood.

What we know:

On Friday, 34-year-old Kevin Spencer was last seen arriving for work at NBC Tower.

Surveillance footage captured him going through his usual routine—checking his hair, exchanging a few words with the security desk attendant, and stepping into the elevator. Everything seemed normal.

At 5:50 p.m., Kevin left the building, saying goodbye to the desk attendant.

Before walking out, he briefly paused to look at something on the lobby TV. That was the last confirmed sighting of him.

Kevin, an IT employee at NBC 5, has not been seen since. He sent a text to his aunt the following day, but after that, all communication stopped.

NBC 5 Chicago announced on Tuesday that Spencer did not report to work this week.

Kevin usually gets around using his electric scooter or public transit. His scooter was found at his apartment in the 400 block of West Oakdale in Lake View East.

His work phone was left on his desk at NBC, and calls to his personal phone now go straight to voicemail.

A search of his apartment revealed no signs of disturbance, with everything appearing to be in place.

Spencer is 5-foot-11, 160 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

What they're saying:

Spencer's ex-wife, Jessica Moreir, who lives in Chicago, is urging authorities to exhaust every possible lead in the search for Kevin Spencer.

"Kevin is a person who likes keeping to himself," she said. "I don't know, sometimes takes a little while to reply back or something like that, but he always comes back. And in talking about texting, of course, if you call him, he will always pick up and if not, he will call you right back."

Spencer's sister also spoke out about her missing brother.

"The last time that I spoke to my brother personally would be Jan. 20, and we spoke for about an hour. My Aunt Frieda did come, and they had planned to talk on Saturday. The time had gotten late, and they had rearranged to talk on Sunday evening. And my aunt never got a call from Kevin. She called. She tried to reach out to him and she never could get through. And I realized that he was missing on Monday."

What you can do:

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Area 3 Special Victims Unit at (312) 744-8266.
