New video shows doomed Chicago flight catch fire

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Brand new video has been released of an American Airlines flight that caught fire on an O'Hare Airport runway last fall.

The incident happened last October as the Boeing 767 was set for takeoff.

One of the pilots described hearing a loud banging noise before making a split second decision to abort the takeoff.

One video released by O'Hare Airport shows the doomed flight as it sped past tower cameras. A puff of smoke can be seen as the plane heads down the runway. Seconds later, flames are visible as the right engine is ignited.

A second video relased by the Chicago Fire Department shows firefighters responding to the incident, surrounding the aircraft within minutes.

In all, 20 passengers suffered minor injuries.

The National Transportation and Safety Board still has not reached a conclusion as to why the engine failed, but determined a turbine disk broke into four pieces. Some of those pieces were found up to a half-mile away.
