Ousted College of DuPage president sues board of trustees

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (AP) — The ousted president of Illinois' largest community college is suing the school's board of trustees for wrongful termination.

Robert Breuder filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against the College of DuPage board and four trustees who approved a resolution Tuesday night to remove him. The board acted following an internal investigation that claimed to have found evidence of "misconduct and mismanagement."

Breuder was dismissed about five months before he was scheduled to step down with a much-maligned $763,000 severance package.

The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1krG4Vg ) the lawsuit claims board chairwoman Kathy Hamilton and her supporters ran a campaign to tarnish Breuder's reputation while violating his constitutional rights.

The board of trustees issued a statement denying the lawsuit's allegations and saying it will vigorously defend its case in court.
