Skydiver crashes into stadium scoreboard

A skydiver carrying a US flag slammed into a scoreboard at  Virginia Tech's spring football game. 

A parachutist who was carrying the U.S. flag as part of a three-person skydiving team crashed into the scoreboard at Virginia Tech’s 2026 spring football game Saturday. 

What we know:

Video taken by Tim Thomas from the stands at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg shows the skydiver stuck on the scoreboard with his parachute draped over his body, as crews climb ladders to rescue them.

What they're saying:

A Virginia Tech spokesperson said the parachutist was rescued and was "in a secure and stable" condition.

What we don't know:

It’s unclear exactly how it happened, but other videos appear to show the skydiver blown off course by the wind.
