CHICAGO - A Chicago family is remembering a woman who touched thousands of people both in her community and online.
The backstory:
Paola Judith Zamora, 32, was a mother, daughter, sister and social media influencer. Her family said she was well known in Pilsen for her fashion, kindness and willingness to put others first.
Zamora died by suicide Sept. 17, according to her family.
Her death came years after another devastating loss. In 2016, Zamora lost her fiancé while she was pregnant with their daughter, Olivia.
Her family described Zamora as resilient but said she also carried pain that few people knew about.
Now, her sister, Yahaira Gutierrez, and other family members are speaking publicly about Zamora’s death in hopes of raising awareness about mental health.
They said they want her story to encourage people to recognize warning signs that can sometimes go unseen and to reach out for help when they are struggling.
What's next:
Zamora’s visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hann Funeral Home, 8230 S. Harlem Ave. in Bridgeview.
Her funeral Mass is scheduled for noon Monday, Sept. 28, at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 1901 S. Ashland Ave. in Chicago. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at 87th Street and South Hamlin Avenue in Evergreen Park.
Her family said they are now focused on raising Zamora’s 9-year-old daughter.
