Police: 1 killed, 6 injured in Bartlett rollover crash
BARTLETT, Ill. (STMW) - An 81-year-old woman was killed and six others injured when an SUV rolled over in Bartlett early Thursday.
A black 2009 Cadillac Escalade was headed westbound in the inside lane of Lake Street (U.S. Route 20) west of Naperville Road in Bartlett when it struck the median at 12:40 a.m., according to a statement from Bartlett police. The Cadillac then lost control, hit the curb and snow embankment north of the road and rolled over onto its passenger side in the westbound lanes of Lake.
Two passengers – the 81-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy –were ejected from the Cadillac, according to police and the Streamwood Fire Department. One of them was trapped under the vehicle when it came to a stop, and crews used rescue airbags to free that person.
The 81-year-old woman, identified as Fardous Sultana of the 600 block of Biltmore in Bartlett, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where she died at 1:25 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The boy was also taken to St. Alexius before being airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries.
The 52-year-old man who was driving the Cadillac and four other passengers were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Elgin with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Lake remained closed between Illinois Route 59 and Lambert Lane as of 8:30 a.m. as authorities continued to investigate the crash, according to police. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information about it is asked to contact police at (630) 837-0846.
