Powerball jackpot hits $1 billion

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday has hit $1 billion, making it the sixth largest Powerball jackpot ever

According to Powerball, if there’s a big winner in the next draw, that person or persons has the option of taking the $1 billion distributed over 30 annual payments, or a one-time cash payout of $453.1 million before taxes.

The winning numbers were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61, and red Powerball 25.

How Powerball works

The backstory:

Powerball tickets are $2 per game. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

Powerball drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Powerball drawings are also live streamed on Powerball.com.
