Report: Group behind failed Florida bridge working on East Chicago project
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - One of the companies responsible for designing a bridge that collapsed in Florida is also working on a construction project in the Chicago area.
According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, the Figg Bridge Group are constructing the new Cline Avenue Bridge, set to open next year in East Chicago.
The $140 million bridge on Cline Avenue will extend 100 feet above the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal.
It's replacing a demolished bridge that was condemned back in 2009.
The Figg Bridge Group helped design a pedestrian bridge being built at Florida International University that collapsed over traffic on Thursday, killing six people and sending 10 to a hospital.
