Semi fire near Gurnee shuts down lanes on Tri-State Tollway

SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Four lanes of the southbound Tri-State Tollway were shut down because of multiple crashes and a semitrailer fire Tuesday morning in north suburban Gurnee.
The semi fire was reported on southbound Interstate 94 near Milwaukee Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.
Four lanes of the tollway were initially closed as crews worked to offload a load of paper that the truck was carrying, state police said. Two lanes were back open by 1 p.m., but crews remained at the scene trying to extinguish the fire, which was still smoldering. No injuries were reported in the fire.
Three other crashes involving semis were reported on the Tri-State Tuesday morning over a 10-mile stretch between the Wisconsin border and Grand Avenue in Gurnee, state police said. At least one person was injured in those crashes, but further details were not immediately available.
