Severe weather ramps up

So far, it's been a rather cool and quiet spring in terms of severe weather. That could easily change Thursday afternoon and evening.

A strong cold front will race quickly through the area beginning Thursday afternoon. The combination of warm, moist air spreading north from the Gulf of Mexico and a very strong Jet Stream out of the southwest will create the potential for a significant severe weather outbreak.

The Storm Prediction Center has put the entire region in an Enhanced Risk Category for severe thunderstorms. This means that numerous severe thunderstorms are possible and are capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a few tornadoes.

There is still a good deal of uncertainty as to where these storms will set up.

It's important to stay alert and pay closer attention to what's going, and always have a plan.
