Americans plan to spend about 20 percent more this year than last on holiday gifts, according to Nerdwallet.
Some tips before you spend: it may seem obvious, but keep your eye on prices.
If you find the same item for less, ask for a price match. Check your credit cards as some offer price protection, meaning if the price goes down after you buy, you get cash back.
Use your credit card benefits. Look for extended warranties on big appliance or TV purchases.
Pay attention to free shipping offers. For example, Target and Best Buy will offer free online shipping with no minimum purchase!
Many retailers know their customers are just itching to grab deals as soon as possible. For some, they just want to avoid the crowds. That's why some places are offering sales before Black Friday.
