Trial set for discredited Illinois officer's wife
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A July 3 trial date has been set for the wife of northern Illinois police lieutenant who killed himself and made it look like it was duty related.
Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted after her husband, Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Gliniewicz, committed suicide in September 2015. She has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, unlawful use of charitable funds for personal gain and money laundering for allegedly siphoning money from the village's youth policing program.
In addition to setting a trial date, Circuit Judge James Booras on Thursday scheduled a June 19 motion hearing. One motion asks him to reconsider a ruling barring the use of texts and emails exchanged between Melodie Gliniewicz and her late husband at trial.
Authorities say Charles Gliniewicz staged his suicide because he feared discovery of his embezzlement from the youth program.
