US: North Korea will be "destroyed" if threats, 'reckless behavior' continues

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Fox 32 News) - North Korea will be "destroyed" if its country's leaders keep threatening the United States, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said.

"We wanted to be responsible and go through all diplomatic means to get their attention first. If that doesn't work, [Defense Secretary] General [James] Mattis will take care of it," she said during an interview on CNN Sunday morning.

Haley said the White House is not spewing empty threats.

"If North Korea keeps on with this reckless behavior, if the United States has to defend itself or defend its allies in any way, North Korea will be destroyed," she said. "And we all know that, and none of us want that."

About 25 million people live in North Korea.
