Woman found dead in South Side fire identified

One of two people found dead in a fire a week and a half ago in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood has been identified.

The fire happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 27 in the 5400 block of South Laflin, according to Fire Media Affairs. It was extinguished about 2 a.m.

Two people were found dead after the fire, according to Fire Media. A third person was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

One of the victims has since been identified as 55-year-old Doris Anderson, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her home address was not known. An autopsy did not rule on her cause and manner of death, with results pending further studies.

The other person found dead remained unidentified as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Unit was investigating the fire.
