Woman trapped in bed by falling tree
(wnyw) - A woman was seriously injured in a freak accident when a 5,000-pound tree fell and crashed through the roof of her Long Island home and trapped her in bed, police said.
The 20-year-old woman was asleep when the large tree fell unexpectedly and collapsed into a second-story bedroom of the Great Neck house about 12:04 a.m. on Monday, according to Nassau County police. The home is on Wooleys Lane East.
Numerous Fire Departments along with the Nassau County Police Departments Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene and were able to free the woman from under the tree.
Officials said she was alert and talking throughout the whole two-hour process, Fox 5's Jodi Goldberg reported.
She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of multiple trauma injuries and was listed in serious but stable condition on Monday morning.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the old oak to fall.
Once the tree is removed, the house will need to be boarded up.
