Beloved African-American folklorist Zora Neale Hurston first published the short story Magnolia Flower in 1925. Born to parents who fled slavery and the Trail of Tears, Magnolia Flower is a girl with a vibrant spirit who longs to connect with others who also seek freedom. Now, her journey is being re-imagined as a children's book by New York Times best-selling author and leading anti-racist scholar Dr. Ibram Kendi.
