2 released without charges in Gresham shooting, crash

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Two people were released without charges after a Gresham neighborhood shooting led to a crash Tuesday evening near Metra Rock Island District tracks in Longwood Manor on the South Side, police said.

Just before 5 p.m., a 22-year-old man was driving in the 8700 block of South Racine when someone in a vehicle behind him opened fire, shooting him in both legs, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Soon after, a three vehicles crashed about a mile and a half away at 95th Street and Vincennes, a collision that police said “may have been related to the shooting.”

Two people injured in the crash were taken to hospitals in fair condition, fire officials said, and two more were taken into custody for questioning in the shooting, police said. They have since been released without charges, police said Wednesday night.

Area South detectives continue to investigate.
