4-year-old girl drowns in Downers Grove

A 4-year-old girl has drowned in a private pool in the suburbs.

It happened last night at the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club on Fairview Avenue.

At this point, the Downers Grove Police and Fire Department are not releasing the little girl’s name out of respect for the family. But the pool was closed Monday and the barricade will remain up at the entrance.

According to police, at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, officers as well as firefighters responded to the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club after reports that a four-year-old girl was found unconscious in the pool.

Paramedics rushed her to a nearby hospital, but they were unable to revive her.

The club issued a statement on its website saying: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of a young life that occurred at our pool. The incident is currently under investigation and the pool will remain closed until further notice."
