Bank robbery suspect arrested after Portage Park barricade situation

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A person was arrested after barricading himself inside a Portage Park neighborhood building on the Northwest Side after a bank robbery attempt Tuesday morning.

About 10:40 a.m., a male entered the Bank of America branch at 4671 W. Irving Park Road and attempted to rob it, according to Chicago Police and the FBI.

He then ran away and entered a building in the 4900 block of West Addison, authorities said. A SWAT team was called to the building for the barricade situation.

The barricade had ended and the person was in police custody as of 2:22 p.m., according to CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

The FBI was investigating.
