BNSF trains moving after pedestrain struck in North Lawndale

CICERO (STMW) - All trains on Metra’s BNSF Line are moving in and out of Union station again Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a train in North Lawndale.
At 3:30 p.m., outbound train No. 1239, which was scheduled to arrive in Aurora at 4:16 p.m., fatally struck a male pedestrian, whose age was not immediately known, in the 2300 block of South Pulaski Road, according to Michael Gillis, a Metra spokesman and Chicago police.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Tuesday that investigators were responding to the scene.
Officials are investigating the cause of the accident, which happened on the elevated tracks, Gillis said.
Just before 5:30 p.m., trains were “cleared to enter and exit Chicago Union Station,” though trains will still experience extensive delays, according to Metra’s website.
Metra also implemented its overcrowding prevention plan at Union Station. All BNSF passengers should head to the loading/staging area prior to boarding. Southwest Service and Heritage Corridor passengers will be allowed to enter the south concourse.
