Chicago man in critical after being shot in Gold Coast

A 26-year-old man was shot multiple times in the Gold Coast neighborhood Wednesday night and is in critical condition.

It happened in the 1200 block of North Clark Street near the Red Line station at Division.

According to reports, the victim was shot five times just after 8 p.m. Officials say he was taken to Northwestern hospital.

Witnesses said the man was part of a group on one side of Clark that was arguing with a group on the other side.

Despite traffic, the groups met in the middle of the street, at which point someone shot the man twice, according to Dennis Trelinski, who saw the shooting from his eighth-floor balcony a half block south of the crime scene.

Even with two gunshot wounds, the man continued to yell at the shooter from the asphalt, Trelinski said. The shooter, who had walked away, walked back into the street and then shot him several more times.

The victim is a documented gang member and a convicted felon on parole.

The suspect fled on foot and is still at large. He is a male.
