Construction worker hospitalized after accident at Obama Presidential Center, officials say

A construction worker is hospitalized after falling several stories at the Obama Presidential Center in Hyde Park on Wednesday afternoon.

What we know:

Fire and police crews responded shortly before 1 p.m. at the center, located at Stony Island Avenue and Midway Plaisance. 

The worker, a 53-year-old man, was installing insulation within a ventilation shaft when he fell, according to a spokesperson with Lakeside Alliance, a collective of 5 construction firms that manages the Obama Presidential Center project.

He sustained multiple injuries but was alert and conscious when he was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment. 

Chicago police said he was listed in good condition.

What they're saying:

"A construction worker who was installing insulation fell within a ventilation shaft at the site of the Obama Presidential Center this afternoon. Emergency services immediately responded. The worker was conscious, alert, and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center for evaluation and care," a Lakeside Alliance spokesperson said.
