CPD formally files charges against officer who killed Quintonio LeGrier, Bettie Jones

CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - CPD's top brass is filing charges against one of its own, but police say it's only a formality.

Officer Robert Rialmo shot and killed two people in 2015 and officials are still investigating the incident.

Almost three years ago, Rialmo was responding to a domestic call on the West Side when he shot and killed two people – 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier who was holding a baseball bat and bystander Bettie Jones.

The investigation into this shooting continues, whether or not he should be let go.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability recommended Rialmo be fired, but Superintendent Eddie Johnson says he disagrees.

Now in order for the investigation to continue, a police source says CPD had to file official charges with the police board.

The board will take up the matter next month.
