Driver in custody after hitting pedestrian on Chicago sidewalk

A 44-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by a car Thursday night on Chicago’s West Side.

What we know:

The crash happened around 9:07 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Lake Street. Police said a 57-year-old man driving a tan sedan was attempting to turn his vehicle around when he hit the woman as she walked on the sidewalk.

The impact knocked the woman to the ground, leaving her with head and leg injuries. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Norwegian Hospital with minor injuries. 

Police said charges are pending.
