Driver runs away after crash that injures 6 in Hermosa

A driver ran away after being involved in a head-on crash that left six people injured early Wednesday in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 4:15 a.m. in the 4600 block of West Armitage, according to Chicago Police. The driver of one of the vehicles left the scene.

Five passengers in that person’s vehicle were taken to hospitals, police said. A 31-year-old woman was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park in fair condition; a 28-year-old woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition; a 28-year-old woman, condition unknown, and a 23-year-old woman whose condition was “stable” were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center; and a 31-year-old man was taken to to Mount Sinai, where his condition stabilized.

The 51-year-old man driving the other vehicle was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, authorities said. He did not have any passengers in his vehicle.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
