An employee was shot during a robbery Sunday night at a Family Dollar store in south suburban Lansing.

Three suspects, one of whom was armed, entered the store about 9:50 p.m. at 17829 Burnham Ave. and demanded money from the clerk, according to a statement from Lansing police. During the robbery, the armed suspect shot the clerk in his leg.

The suspects, who made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, then ran out of the store and through the parking lot, police said. Footprints in the snow led to a residential street, where it appears they got into a vehicle.

The clerk, a 24-year-old man, was taken to a hospital, where his condition stabilized after undergoing surgery.

The armed suspect was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white trim and black sweatpants with white stripes down the legs, police said. The second robber was seen wearing all black clothing and carrying a brown backpack with light-colored trim. The final suspect, who acted as a lookout during the robbery, was seen wearing all black clothing with white and gold shoes.

All three suspects had their faces partially covered during the robbery, police said.

The incident appeared to be similar to another armed robbery a short time earlier at a Burger King in Munster, Indiana, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Lansing Police Department at (708) 895-7150.
