A 13-year-old girl was struck by a Chicago police cruiser Saturday near the Chicago Water Tower as officers were responding to a report of gunfire.

The girl was crossing against a red light when she slipped, fell and was struck by the cruiser about 4:30 p.m. near Chicago and Michigan avenues, according to police and Fire Media Affairs.

The officers had their emergency lights activated at the time the girl was struck, police said.

The girl was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a leg injury, authorities said.
