CHICAGO - Two ground stops were issued at O'Hare Airport on Thursday morning due to thunderstorms.
What we know:
Departures to O'Hare were grounded at 6:31 a.m. and resumed at 8:30 a.m. followed by a ground delay, averaging delays of 75 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
A second ground stop was issued at the airport just after 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
In the past 24 hours, 20 flights have been canceled at O'Hare.
The Chicago area is under threat of severe storms Thursday with all hazards, including tornadoes, in play. The National Weather Service said to expect severe conditions between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. with wind gusts up to 80 mph and quarter-sized hail.
The northwestern part of Illinois is under the greatest threat of tornadoes this afternoon.
