House-sitter shot during St. Charles burglary
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A man was shot during a burglary Thursday afternoon in west suburban St. Charles.
Officers were called about 2:25 p.m. to a burglary in progress at a home in the 3600 block of Grand View Court, where the 28-year-old man was found inside with a gunshot wound, according to St. Charles police.
The man was house-sitting for a relative when the incident happened, police said. He suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder area and was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.
Officers searched the home and did not find anyone else inside, but the back door window had been broken out, police said. Evidence technicians will conduct a more thorough search of the home.
Nearby St. Charles North High School was placed under soft lockdown until about 4:10 p.m. as police searched the area. Bus dismissal was also delayed at Wildrose and Ferson Creek elementary schools.
No one is in custody and St. Charles police are investigating.
