Kane County deputy critically injured in head-on crash with pickup truck

A Kane County Sheriff's deputy was critically injured after being struck head-on by a pickup truck in Hampshire Township early Monday.

At about 6:56 a.m., the deputy was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 47 just south of Plank Road when it was struck head-on by a Dually Dodge Ram Pickup truck and trailer.

According to preliminary information, the pickup truck was heading northbound on Illinois Route 47 when it attempted to stop in traffic. The truck then went into oncoming traffic and struck the Kane County Sheriff's squad head-on.

The deputy – identified as 33-year-old Brian Anderson – suffered multiple leg fractures and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was listed in stable but critical condition.

There were three occupants in the Ram Pickup truck. The driver – identified as Indalecio Munoz of Marseilles, Illinois – and two passengers were all transported to Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Anderson has been with the Kane County Sheriff's Office for over 10 months, officials said. Previously, he was a sworn police officer for several years with Arlington Heights PD.

Illinois State Police is investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
