Lake County court clerk employees charged with altering records

WAUKEGAN (STMW) - Two Zion women who worked for the Lake County court clerk’s office have been charged with official misconduct for altering court records.

Veronica Ventura, 41, and 45-year-old Leticia Gonzalez are both accused of altering 19th Judicial Circuit Court records for personal gain, according to a statement from the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.

They both altered files as early as 2010, prosecutors said. An internal audit revealed irregularities in records, and Ventura and Gonzalez were arrested.

Ventura, of the 1400 block of Lorelei Drive in Zion, is charged with two counts of official misconduct, according to the state’s attorney’s office. She posted 10 percent of her $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3.

Gonzalez, of the 1000 block of Shiloh Boulevard in Zion, is charged with eight counts of official misconduct, prosecutors said. She posted 10 percent of her $20,000 bond and is expected back in court Feb. 25.
