Lane closures scheduled on I-55 and Lake Shore Drive for reconstruction
CHICAGO (STMW) - Lane closures and reductions start next week for the ongoing reconstruction of the interchange between the Stevenson Expressway and Lake Shore Drive.
Three different lane closures and reductions will start Monday and last through November 3, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The three lanes of the inbound Stevenson approaching the interchange will be reduced to two 11-foot-wide lanes starting just east of the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to the statement.
The existing single lane on the inbound Stevenson to the southbound Lake Shore Drive ramp will be reduced to an 11-foot width, with traffic shifted to the right side of the ramp, according to the statement.
The lanes on 25th Street from Martin Luther King Drive to McCormick Place Busway will be reduced to 12-foot widths and shifted south. One lane in each direction will be open and street parking will be closed, and access to McCormick Place Busway will be maintained, according to the statement.
The State Street ramp to the inbound Stevenson and Martin Luther King Drive exits will remain open, according to the statement.
Some overnight lane closures will be required to establish the work zone. Once the work zone is in place by Nov. 3, the new configuration will remain until Summer 2016, according to the statement.
