New details in Loop shooting that killed two teens

We're learning more about the tragic deaths of two teens who were fatally shot in the Loop on Friday. Nate Rodgers has the story.

A second suspect has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of two teenagers outside their downtown Chicago high school in January 2024.

What we know:

James Allison, 20, of Chicago, was arrested on Feb. 3 in Crown Point, Indiana, by Chicago police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force.

Authorities say Allison was involved in the Jan. 26, 2024, shooting that killed 16-year-old Robert Boston and 17-year-old Monterio Williams near Innovations High School in the Loop.

Allison has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The backstory:

The shooting occurred around 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 26 near Madison Street and Wabash Avenue, as students were leaving school. Witnesses reported seeing a dark sedan and an SUV pull up before multiple gunmen exited and opened fire.

A 25-year-old woman was also grazed by a bullet, but survived.

Authorities arrested the first suspect, 22-year-old Tommie Coleman, on Jan. 29. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

What's next:

Investigators have not disclosed a motive for the attack or whether more arrests are expected.

Allison remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Feb. 5 at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The case remains under investigation.
