Man shot while waiting to take driving test in suburban Chicago

A man was shot Monday while waiting for a driving test at a Secretary of State’s driver services facility in south suburban Chicago Heights.

He was waiting in line for a road test about 1:30 p.m. when someone walked up and fired multiple gunshots, according to Illinois Secretary of State’s office spokesman Dave Druker.

The shooter ran away from the facility, located at 570 W. 209th St., Druker said.

Police showed up and found the 27-year-old gunshot victim sitting inside his car in the parking lot, Chicago Heights police said in a statement. He had been shot in his left hip.

Paramedics took the Harvey resident to St. James Olympia Fields Hospital for treatment, police said. He was going to be transferred to Stroger Hospital in Chicago.

The man told investigators that the shooter was using a dark-colored vehicle, police said.

Chicago Heights police were investigating the shooting. Detectives believed the shooting was targeted.
