An off-duty Chicago police officer fired shots at someone who allegedly got into her vehicle Wednesday in South Chicago.

The female officer was loading items into the trunk about 4 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Coles Avenue when she saw someone she didn’t know in the passenger seat, according to Chicago police.

She confronted the male and fired shots at him during the confrontation, police said. He was not hit and ran away on foot.

No injuries were reported and no one is in custody, police said.

Civilian Office of Police Accountability spokesman Ephraim Eaddy said COPA is aware of the incident and “has opened an investigation to determine the appropriateness of the actions taken by the involved officer based on department policy.”
