Police: Former student threatens violence at Woodstock High School

WOODSTOCK (STMW) - Police ramped up their presence Thursday near Woodstock High School after a former student tried to get his friend to stay home by threatening violence at the northwest suburban school.

A student received a text message from his friend Wednesday afternoon threatening violence at the school at 501 W. South St., according to a statement from Woodstock police. The student told his parents, who called police.

Officers met with the friend, who is a former WHS student, and his parents, and after a “thorough threat assessment,” determined the threat was not credible, police said.

Police said the former student sent the text in an effort to get his friend not to go to school Thursday so they could “hang out.” The former student was “warned of his actions.”

The school day went on without disruption, but police provided extra patrol in the area.
