Police searching for 9-year-old girl abducted by mother
The South Elgin Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating 9-year-old Kayla Unbehaun, who has been abducted by her maternal mother, 35-year-old Heather Unbehaun. Heather is believed to be driving a blue 2000 Toyota Camry with expired Georgia License Plate PTM 3975.
On July 5, 2017, the paternal father went to pick up Kayla on the 500 block of E. Illinois Street, Wheaton, IL from the maternal mother. The father learned that Kayla was not there and that the mother had allegedly packed her vehicle on July 4, 2017, and left the location with the child.
Heather has not had any contact with family since she leaving with Kayla.
Although the child was taken from Wheaton, DuPage County, IL, there is a pending family court case in Kane County and the Kane County States Attorney Office is taking the lead in the charges. The Kane County States Attorney Office has authorized one count of child abduction.
