Rescuers search the Kankakee River for missing people near dam where many have drowned
WILMINGTON, Illinois (Fox 32 News) - Crews searched the Kankakee River on Saturday afternoon for people who were reportedly missing in the water.
Photos taken by witnesses showed rescuers in the water near the Wilmington Dam. A couple hours later, the crews were gone, but Wilmington Fire officials would not provide any information to Fox 32 News about what exactly had happened.
This is the same area where two Joliet children drowned on Memorial Day last year. Over 35 years, the manmade dam has claimed the lives of 21 people; 20 others have been rescued.
The Wilmington Fire Department said they would provide more information about the incident on Monday.
