A man stole a Los Angeles County sheriff's patrol SUV in Sylmar Tuesday and led authorities on a chase during which he was injured in a deputy-involved shooting before surrendering in Reseda.

The man stole the SUV about 6:45 a.m. outside Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where the deputy had gone on a report of a person causing a disturbance. Deputies followed the SUV to the area of White Oak Avenue and Kittridge Street, where the man was taken into custody about 7:20 a.m., the sheriff's department reported.

At some point during the chase, the motorist rammed a pursuing patrol vehicle, and there was a deputy-involved shooting that shattered a side window of the stolen vehicle, injuring the suspect, according to the sheriff's department.

Paramedics sent to the location where the chase ended took the man to a hospital for treatment of an injury described as not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.

The man's name was not immediately released.
