An SUV driven by a suspected drunken driver drove off an overpass and into a construction zone early Tuesday, according to Chicago police.

The vehicle was headed south on Lake Shore Drive when the driver lost control while trying to take an exit and crashed about 2:25 a.m. in the 100 block of East LaSalle Drive, police said.

The SUV landed on its side in the construction zone.

The driver and five passengers were taken to area hospitals with injuries that weren't life-threatening. All their conditions had been stabilized, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody under investigation of a suspected DUI, police said. No charges had been filed.

All lanes were open as police investigate the crash.
