Chicago weather: Snow showers join bitter cold

Wind chills in Chicago started today at almost 20 degrees below zero.

A warm-up of sorts is on the way today. Highs will get into the low and mid 20s. There will be, however, occasional snow showers. The first batch of snow will favor the northern half of the Chicago area mainly late this morning until around midday. 

The second wave of snow will impact the entire viewing area and move through tonight most likely after the rush-hour. Snow will continue into early Thursday morning before ending. When all is said and done, snowfall amounts will be an inch give or take.

School closures

There are a handful of school closures in effect today with several resorting to e-learning.

Thursday: The rest of tomorrow will be dry, breezy and chilly with highs in the low 20s.

Friday and the weekend: Quiet and seasonably chilly with highs nudging up to around freezing on Saturday. 

Tuesday and Wednesday: Milder air is poised to arrive. Might even squeak a 40-degree day in there.
