Chicago weather: Shot at 50 degrees this week

Chicagoans are experiencing an unusually mild start to the week, with Monday’s highs climbing into the low to mid-40s, far surpassing the average late-January high of 31 degrees.

The warmth will stick around for much of the week. Tonight, gusty west-southwest winds up to 40 mph and increasing cloud cover may bring a few flurries. Skies are expected to clear by Tuesday morning, with temperatures dipping into the mid to upper 20s.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid-40s and gusty winds continuing. Wednesday will be slightly cooler, with highs near 40 and partly cloudy skies.

Thursday will see temperatures soar into the lower 50s ahead of a storm system bringing rain and a chance of light snow Thursday night into Friday. Highs on Friday will hover around 40 degrees before colder air arrives for the weekend.
