Nancy Reagan became voice for families struggling with Alzheimer's

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Nancy Reagan was well-known for her efforts in the Alzheimer's community, a disease her husband struggled with beginning in 1994.

Many credit the late first lady with bringing the shame and stigma of Alzheimer's out of the closet, and putting it on a public stage.

Dr. Maria Carrillo, chief science officer of the Alzheimer's Association, joined Good Day Chicago to discuss the legacy Nancy Reagan leaves behind in the Alzheimer's community.
