OpticsPlanet is looking for a capable writer with a rich background in sports shooting, hunting and the sporting goods industry to create both technical and creative copy in an ecommerce environment.
A good candidate for this position must not only be able to write formally and succinctly but also be able to take the most boring, straight-forward subject and write such prose as to leave a reader laughing and/or crying, cheering, moved, and ultimately making a purchase on our website.
To succeed in this position, a candidate must have a strong writing style that comes across in their copy, along with an ability to understand the target demographic and write for them. Exemplary editing and writing skills, a keen marketing sense, and a passion for producing unique, intriguing content is a must! The candidate will apply the principles of promoting, showing, and selling products, and helping maintain our brand identity in the retail/ecommerce industry that is ruled by SEO today.
Day-to-day responsibilities include creating copy for catalog pages (including product, brands and categories), promotions and informational material (including blogging and buying guides), marketing copy such as television and radio ads, and maintaining our stores' policies and communication templates.

Create and maintain effective communications material including policies, customer service templates, press releases, guides, blogs as well as our catalog pages (including product, brand, and category pages)
Optimize our content for search engines by conducting keyword research and content tests
Ensure our Best Selling Products and Brands are well presented across our web properties
Improve the quality of product information available for our customers to help them with their purchasing decision
Gather, organize, and translate information into persuasive & compelling language
Maintain the company's image, identify and communication style
Minimum 1 year working experience in copywriting in a retail or agency environment with experience in HTML
Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Marketing, or similar field is preferred
Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading ability
High comfort level with software and technology especially Microsoft Office & the internet
Extreme Attention to detail: style, copy & message
The ability to write in a variety of styles
Strong knowledge of the English language: superb writing and verbal skills
Positive attitude and strong work ethics, ability to multi task and perform in a fast-paced environment is a must
Retail/e-commerce experience preferred, knowledge of SEO, content management operations and/or online marketing concepts is a plus
Familiarization with firearms, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities a HUGE plus.
