SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A 17-year-old boy was fatally struck by a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line during the Tuesday evening rush in northwest suburban Cary.

Inbound train No. 654 struck the boy shortly after 5 p.m. at 3412 Northwest Highway in Cary, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis and the McHenry County coroner’s office.

The coroner’s office said he was seen running into the eastbound train.

The boy, who lived in Crystal Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:55 p.m., the coroner’s office said. An autopsy Wednesday determined he died from multiple blunt traumatic injuries, but the incident remains under investigation. His name has not been released.

UP-NW trains were delayed through the evening after the crash, Gillis said.
