2 high school friends commit suicide within hours of each other

Two 17-year-old friends who were students at a Texas high school apparently committed suicide within hours of each other Sunday, and officials are trying to find out if the girls had a suicide pact.

“If that happened that there was some sort of pact, we need to know that because it may lead to further tragedies such as this one,” city spokesman Celso Martinez told The Dallas Morning News. “We don’t know if it was but we don’t want to discount the possibility offhand.”

Ritu Sachdeva was found dead in her home around midnight on Sunday and Hillary Kate Kuizon was found in a wooded area a few hours later, police said. Both girls attended Plano East Senior High School.

“Both deaths occurred within hours of each other under circumstances that have led investigators to presume they were both self-inflicted,” the Murphy Police Department said in a statement obtained by FOX4. “No motives have been identified and no evidence of foul play has so far been detected.”

A cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. The Plano Independent School District is providing grief counselors.
