2 men dead, 1 critical in East Garfield Park shooting
CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Two men were killed and a third person was critically injured in a shooting Wednesday in East Garfield Park on the West Side.
Four people were standing on the northeast corner of St. Louis and Ohio streets at 9:53 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and two gunmen got out and opened fire at the group, Chicago Police Deputy Chief Al Nagode said at a media briefing Wednesday. The shooters then got back into the white or gray four-door vehicle and took off.
Two 19-year-old men were dead at the scene, Nagode said. One of them had run east on Ohio after the shooting before collapsing, while the other ran north on St. Louis.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed Ismeal T. Moore died on St. Louis. The other 19-year-old’s identity has not been confirmed.
Detectives in the area heard gunshots and pulled over a vehicle that was fleeing the area, Nagode said. A third victim, a 29-year-old man, was inside that vehicle.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to police and Chicago Fire Department officials.
Nagode said at least 30 rounds were fired in the shooting, which may have been related to gang conflicts involving an open-air drug market in the area. Detectives are checking cameras in the area that may have captured video of the attack.
No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
